This is a great-looking big and bustling Italian restaurant in an old bank building, but I wasn't very satisfied by my food. I got the Chophouse Bolognese (on rigatoni), and (a) there wasn't much meat and/or sauce on it, (b) the rigatoni was a bit overcooked, and (c) it arrived fairly cold. Not very pleasant, considering the price. Others in the group were more satisfied with their dishes, so on balance, the experience was decidedly middling. And the drinks were pretty good. But in the future, I'll give this a miss.

Enjoy some nice Pinot noir to start with some warm bread with roasted garlic olive oil. Pickled beet salad is good portion size, love it it’s just the right amount of vinaigrette in it. The wood grilled octopus have a nice charred to it, aioli onion and pancetta all works very well together with the octopus. Then we got the mixed grill and seafood far diavolo as entree. The mixed grill came with steak tips, chicken and lamb lollipops. The steak tips was amazing; chicken breast well seasoned and juicy; and the lamb lollipops cooked just right. The seafood fra diavolo, came with 2 giant scallops loved, good size shrimps and mussels, the sauce is spicy but not over powering. Loved. We’ll always have room for dessert so we got the 10 layer chocolate cake, cake is good, ganache just a bit too sweet for me. Love the interior, comfortable and very friendly staffs.

The food was fantastic. We got the octopus as an appetizer; I've never eaten octopus so soft and tender. We asked the server about it and he said the chef actually massages the octopus for thirty minutes every morning. The filet mignon was amazing, too. I asked for medium and it came out very evenly cooked and just the right amount of pink in the middle. Our waiter Spencer was the best part of the meal, though. He was extremely attentive and engaging. He did a great job taking care of us on Valentine's Day. Even if food at a restaurant is perfect, a bad waiter can ruin the whole meal, you know? At Toscana, the food and the service were the best I've had in Portsmouth. Highly rated. Took a star off the atmosphere because the table was a little too small and the space was a little cramped.

We had a great time at Toscana last night. Had great appetizers and wonderful entrees. I had the mixed grill. Each of the meats were cooked perfectly, especially liked the steak tips. My wife had the roasted half chicken, which she enjoyed very much. We finished with the 10 layer chocolate cake and coffee. The cake is unbelievable. We were in a quieter part of the restaurant at a very comfortable table.

I like the new ? location and I appreciate that they are maintaining the old New Hampshire National Bank ?. The inside looks great ?! There is a bar ? and you have a full view of the kitchen. According to an online haunted tour of Portsmouth, it's supposed to be "BOO!", Aaagh!, ..... haunted.
Service was very good ?! I had three servers and they all asked if I was enjoying my meal and dessert. I was able to relax and the WiFi was easy to access.
My only issue was the food. The price to quantity ratio wasn't good. I ordered the Butternut Squash Ravioli and I was disappointed that half the plate ?️ was empty. The ravioli was okay but a bit bland. The complimentary bread with olive ? oil for dipping was good. My dessert, 10 Layer Chocolate Zabaglione Cake was okay. Where was the mousse that was supposed to come with it? Coffee ☕ tasted good but was overpriced. I understand inflation is driving up prices, but, the Tuscan restaurant franchise has a problem with pricing in all of their restaurants.
Update: August, 2023; I sat at the bar and tried the Roasted Chicken ? with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Tiramisu for dessert. Very good! Service was slow but I was treated very well. Extra ⭐.
Update: August 2024; Beet Salad ?, Shaved Onion ? and Brulee d Cheesecake were good!
This restaurant was very busy when I left. If you have a large group, I recommend a reservation.

Insane prices. Very disappointing food. It cost an insane $515 for three people. We ordered a three course meal, with Caesar salad as an entree, a tiny portion of pasta as entree, and a piece of cake for dessert. The scallops were not good, and overall portion sizes were very small. On the lobster ravioli, the portion was 6 pieces of small ravioli and 4 pieces of shrimp. Per person is over $170! For some Caesar salad, pasta, and a piece of cake! Absurd!

The atmosphere is wonderful. The building and decor create a wonderful environment. Unfortunately the food was disappointing. The beef tartare was delicious and well seasoned but both the steak and the truffle tagliatelle were underseasoned. The steak was well-cooked but needed more seasoning. The truffle tagliatelle was bland and did not have depth of flavor. Our service was pleasant but seemed scattered and frequently forgot things (water, glass of wine).

I ordered the mixed grill. It consisted of grilled lamb, chicken and beef. It all had the same charred flavor. When I say charred, it tasted burnt. I’ve never minded paying inflated prices for good food but this was inedible. They did take my meal off the bill but I left this restaurant hungry. I wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone. My friend paid $65 for a rare steak that had a burnt layer on the outside but was nice on the inside. He said it was very good except for the burnt flavor. Personally I think they should stick to pasta although those of us that ordered pasta dishes were not wowed by their meal. If anyone ever asks me to recommend a good place to eat in Portsmouth, I will simply tell them to steer clear of this one. The chef shouldn’t have even played what he sent to our table. The service was good but left very disappointed.
